Calling to Mom

As a cosmopolitan city with over 20 million residents, nearly two-fifths of Beijing's population consists of people from other parts of China who have migrated in search of opportunities, often referred to as "Beipiao" or "Beijing drifters." Among these young Beipiao, while some seek to escape the constraints of their hometowns, others reflect on their roots and attempt to rebuild that connection. A phone call with their mother back home can often signify this subtle sense of nostalgia.
