Whose Dream

Jin Le, a native artist from Shijiezi Village in Qinan County, Tianshui City, Gansu Province, was the first university student in the village during the 1980s. In 2007, he gathered four farmers from Shijiezi Village to participate in the 12th Documenta in Kassel, Germany. In 2009, he officially established the Shijiezi Art Museum, aiming to change the countryside through art, and many years have passed since then. The village has thirteen households, which corresponds to thirteen sub-branches of the museum. He was regarded as a talented person by the villagers and was elected as the honorary village chief. In Jin Le's view, “transforming rural areas is not just about poverty alleviation.”

Jin Le unfortunately passed away on January 11, 2021, at the age of 56.​
